No. 09 Share Price INEOS Market Cap

The price one shareholder paid.
Still forty-seven percent above today.

Manchester United shares closed at $22.42 on 27 May 2026, up roughly forty percent year to date, adding $1.1 billion in market value. INEOS paid $33 per share in December 2023. The 2026 rally has not closed the gap.

MANU share price ($, NYSE close) INEOS purchase price (Dec 2023, $33) All-time high ($26.84, Feb 2023) IPO price ($14, Aug 2012)
Manchester United's NYSE-listed shares closed at $22.42 on 27 May 2026, the highest level since early 2024. The price remains below the $26.84 all-time closing high reached in February 2023, and below the $33 per share INEOS paid in December 2023 to acquire its minority stake.

Manchester United's share price rose 13.7% on 27 May 2026 to $22.42, following a fiscal third-quarter earnings beat and raised full-year guidance. Year to date, the stock is up roughly thirty-five to forty percent. Market capitalisation has increased by approximately $1.1 billion since the start of the year. This is the rally. It is real. It is also the third time since 2022 that Manchester United's listed equity has crossed twenty dollars per share. In December 2023, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS paid $33 per share to acquire a minority stake from the Glazer family and public Class A shareholders. That was the price one informed buyer paid for the same equity, in a negotiated transaction, with full access to the books, twenty-nine months ago. Today's price, after the strongest quarterly results the club has reported since the pandemic, is $22.42. That is forty-seven percent below what Ratcliffe paid. The market is not pricing the Q3 beat incorrectly. It is pricing what it has always priced: a club carrying $650 million of unhedged dollar borrowings, a £490 million long-term debt position, £262.5 million of current borrowings, and an accumulated retained loss of £355 million on the balance sheet. Operating profit for the nine months to 31 March 2026 was £37.7 million. The same nine months produced £29.2 million in net interest costs. The rally restores the share price. It does not close the gap between what the listed equity trades for and what one private buyer was willing to pay for the same shares in late 2023.

Methodology note. Share price data are NYSE Class A closing prices for ticker MANU, drawn from Manchester United Form 20-F filings and contemporaneous market data. The series shown plots approximate monthly closing prices from the 10 August 2012 IPO through 27 May 2026. The all-time closing high of $26.84 was set on 16 February 2023 during the takeover process. The $33 per share INEOS reference is the price agreed in the share purchase deed dated 24 December 2023 for the acquisition of a minority shareholding from the Glazer family and through a tender offer to Class A shareholders, completed in February 2024. The "roughly forty percent" year-to-date figure is approximate: from a January 2026 opening price in the $16 range to $22.42 on 27 May 2026. The $1.1 billion market capitalisation increase reflects 172.4 million weighted average shares outstanding multiplied by the year-to-date price gain. Balance sheet figures (long-term borrowings £490m; current borrowings £262.5m; accumulated deficit £355m; unhedged USD borrowings $650m) are drawn from the unaudited interim condensed consolidated balance sheet at 31 March 2026 in the Q3 FY2026 results release. Operating profit and net finance costs are for the nine months to 31 March 2026 on the same release. The entry makes no claim about future share price direction.
